Confirmation

“John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be
baptized with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 1:5).

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
 
We want to thank you for your support of your child while he/she continues this journey in faith toward receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Your child’s decision to receive this sacrament is one of the most important decisions that he/she will make in his/her life because the Sacrament of Confirmation completes one’s full initiation into the Catholic Church.  
                  
Here at St. Margaret Mary Church, we take the responsibility of preparing the young people of our parish for the Sacrament of Confirmation very seriously.  It is our goal to provide each candidate with the opportunity to experience our faith in a way that is life changing.  We hope that your child will not only learn more about our Catholic faith but enjoy each session while growing in his/her faith at the same time. 
 
We will meet on Monday evenings from 7-8:30pm in the Evangelization Center (please see the schedule for specific dates). Our first session will be held on Monday, August 19th at 7:00 pm in the Evangelization Center Hall.  This meeting is for parents and candidates.  
 
The Archdiocese of New Orleans requires that every candidate attend a retreat before being Confirmed.  The date of our retreat will be on Saturday, August 16th.  IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSOLUTELY NOT ABLE TO ATTEND OUR RETREAT THEN IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND ANOTHER CONFIRMATION RETREAT FOR HIM/HER TO ATTEND PRIOR TO THE CELEBRATION OF CONFIRMATION.   
 
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on November 21st at 7:00 pm by Archbishop Gregory Aymond. 
 
The cost is $100 per candidate.  This fee will cover the cost of all materials and the retreat.  No candidate will be denied sacramental preparation due to financial reasons. If this cost is a burden for your family please let us know. 
 
We will also need a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate.  Candidates will not be allowed to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation if we do not have a copy of his/her Baptismal Certificate. 
 
This time of preparation is also a time of discernment for your child.  We are committed to walking with you and your child throughout this time and fully support you both.  Please know that we, here at St. Margaret Mary Church are here for you and should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
