Spiritual direction seeks to enable a person to be more attentive to God.
It is a conversation in which the Spiritual Director helps the person seeking
spiritual direction,
the "Directee", to grow in his/her relationship with God,
by noticing how God is revealed
through the unique circumstances of the Directee's everyday life and prayer.
The focus of a spiritual direction session is to help the Directee notice and
respond to the presence of God in all of life. |

What is Spiritual Direction Meant to Do?
• Support in our personal relationship with God.
• To help us become ever more aware of God’s Presence in our life and more
responsive to God’s leading.
• To grow in awareness of our feelings toward God and not simply our thoughts
about God.
• To help us notice, own, and to share with God our struggles, joys, hopes,
pain, gratitude.
• To notice ever more clearly God’s Presence in our daily life and daily prayer.
• To be sensitive to interior changes within us and the effects these changes
have on our relationships, including the relationship of prayer.
• To allow God’s love to lead us into a life of acceptance and hope.
During a spiritual direction
session, the Director helps the Directee talk about their experience of God, in
prayer and in life. For on-going individual spiritual direction, Directees meet
once a month with their Spiritual Director. During their session, the Director
helps the Directee speak about their prayer time and what they noticed about the
movement of the Spirit in their life. At times, a person may want to do other
types of spiritual direction experiences, like Retreats or Days of Prayer and
Reflection. For these, the Director will adapt prayer experiences that address
their individual needs and preferences.
