Hospital
Visitation
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion are scheduled in rotation to
bring the Blessed Sacrament to patients at Slidell Memorial
Hospital. Consecrated Hosts are
carried in a pyx (small containers kept in the Church sacristy).
Lay volunteers pick up
the Catholic patient census from the phone operators at Slidell
Memorial Hospital, and then take
the Holy Eucharist to the patients in their rooms. If a patient is unable
to receive, the lay volunteer imparts a blessing. Upon
finishing, the volunteer returns the leftover Hosts and pyx to the Church.
The lay volunteers may also notify the church office if there is a
patient in need of the Anointing of the Sick, or if a patient
would like to see a priest for confession.
In order to protect the patients'
privacy, volunteers are asked to:
- Wear an identification
badge which is provided by the hospital. |
